Schedule
June 18-22 – Student Workshop
The workshop will be held at the Holme and Sutherland Rooms at the Sydney University Union.
Daily Schedule
Student Week Projects:
Students will work on week-long projects relating to a particular area of pulsar data analysis that will be completed individually or in small groups.
Shortly after the student workshop registration closes, workshop tutors will contact all participating students in order to set up projects. Projects will be tailored to each student’s interests and experience. We expect that all students will arrive in Sydney with computing and data suited to complete the project. Data suitable for the project is available from the Australian National Data Service (ANDS). https://data.csiro.au/dap/public/atnf/pulsarSearch.zul
Possible projects include:
Searching:- Searching for pulsars in archive data sets.
- “Solving” a newly discovered pulsar.
- Comparing search algorithms.
- Introduction to pulsar timing.
- Obtaining TOAs from average profiles.
- Calibrating pulsar data.
- Combining TOAs from multiple telescopes.
- Developing a coherent dedispersion algorithm.
- Correcting for interstellar propagation in pulsar timing observations.
- Characterising the noise in IPTA pulsars.
- Setting a limit on the gravitational wave background using a single pulsar.
June 25-29 – Science Meeting
The science meeting will take place at the Sebel Harbourside Resort and Hotel, Kiama.
A detailed program for the meeting will be available very soon.
